A few months ago I watched the mini series, The Kennedy's.
I thought it was really well done and that all of the actors did an amazing job. Especially Barry Pepper who played Bobby Kennedy.
Immediately after watching the show, I read the book What Remains (recommended to me about 7 years ago by Miriam!). Which I thought was a good book, but I was glad I was reading Bossypants (by Tina Fey) at the same time so that I didn't fall into a pit of depression, as it was very sad.
Which brings me to the point of this post. Jackie had a rough life. She was the first lady with many many difficulties within that position (her husband having affairs, both of them taking uppers to get through the days, trying to be a good mother, wife and 1st lady all at once...). She lost a baby who was born premature. Then her husband who, despite it all, she appears to be very in love with, is killed right in front of her. Her close friend and brother-in-law is murdered soon after. She marries another man and soon after, his son dies in a plane crash. Not too much later after that, her husband dies of a health issue making her a two-time widow by the age of 46. She died of cancer at the age of 64. I am glad that she didn't live to see her son and daughter-in-law die in a plane crash, at least she only knew her children to be healthy and living! I know this is a real downer of a post, but I wanted to post a few pictures of Jackie. I'm not really a huge fan/follower/admirer of her, just because I'm not, nothing against her. But I do have some respect for her having to go through so much in one lifetime. So here is a really random photo-blogpost of Jackie O.

I was also very struck by all the tragedy this woman had to brave, but sometimes I think it was harder on her sister Lee. Lee is still alive and had to lose her own son to cancer, her sister to cancer, all of the assassinations, her nephew to that plane crash, etc. Both have weathered a lot for sure. And maybe that's why I love that illustrated book of their European travels together so much, it's from before all of these things happened when they were young and full of hope for their future. Lee also has a book of memories published from "before" that I can't quite remember the name of but it has to do with that line of thought.
